Why Isn't My Business Showing Up on Google in Singapore?

Five real reasons a Singapore business doesn't show up on Google — from not being indexed to a missing Business Profile — and how to tell which is yours.

The Short Answer

If you’ve searched for your own business on Google and come up empty, it’s almost always one of five things: your site hasn’t been indexed yet, you have no Google Business Profile, you rank but you’re buried on page three, your competitors are simply stronger, or you’re searching in a way no real customer would.

The good news is these are diagnosable. You don’t need to guess. Below is each cause, how to tell if it’s yours, and what to do about it.

Reason 1: Google Hasn’t Indexed Your Site Yet

Before Google can show your site, it has to find it, crawl it, and add it to its index. If your website is new, this can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. If it’s been months and you still can’t find yourself, something is blocking Google.

Here’s the quick test. Go to Google and type site:yourdomain.com (using your real domain). If a list of your pages comes up, you’re indexed. If Google returns nothing, you’re not — and nothing else matters until that’s fixed.

The usual culprits: a noindex tag left switched on after the site went live, a robots.txt file quietly blocking crawlers, or a brand-new site Google hasn’t discovered yet. We’ve seen a freshly launched site sit invisible for weeks because the developer never turned off the “discourage search engines” setting from the staging build. One checkbox.

Reason 2: You Have No Google Business Profile

For most Singapore businesses — a clinic, a salon, a café, a tuition centre — the map pack is where the customers are. Those three listings with the little map, the ones that show up for “physio near me” or “hair salon Tampines,” come from Google Business Profile, not your website.

No profile, no map pack. It’s that binary. And a profile that exists but is half-finished — wrong category, missing address, no hours — barely does better.

This is usually the fastest win available to a local business, and it’s free. We go deep on it in our guide to ranking on Google Maps in Singapore, but the short version: claim it, verify it, pick the right primary category, and fill in everything.

Reason 3: You Rank — But You’re on Page Three

This one stings, because you are on Google. You’re just nowhere anyone looks. Three-quarters of clicks go to the first page, and the top three results take the lion’s share of those. Page two might as well be page twenty.

Being indexed is not the same as ranking. You can have every page in Google’s index and still lose to competitors who’ve earned it. Usually the gap comes down to thin content that doesn’t actually answer the search, missing local signals (no “Singapore,” no neighbourhood, no mention of the areas you serve), or a page that’s technically slow and clunky on mobile.

This is the slow, real work of SEO — and it’s fixable, but it’s not a checkbox. If you’re not sure what’s holding a page back, our breakdown of the 5 SEO mistakes Singapore businesses make is a good place to start.

Reason 4: Your Competitors Simply Have More Authority

Sometimes there’s nothing wrong with your site at all. You’ve just been outworked.

Google weighs trust. A competitor who’s been publishing useful content for three years, has fifty genuine reviews, and gets mentioned across local directories and news sites has built something you can’t leapfrog overnight. For competitive Singapore industries — aesthetics, property, legal, finance — the top spots are held by whoever invested earliest and kept going.

That’s not a reason to give up. It’s a reason to be realistic about the timeline and to pick your battles. You may not outrank the biggest player for “dentist Singapore,” but “invisalign Bishan” or “emergency dentist Toa Payoh” is a different, winnable fight.

Reason 5: You’re Searching Like an Owner, Not a Customer

Here’s the trap almost everyone falls into. You Google your exact business name, don’t see yourself, and panic. But two things are skewing that search.

First, your business name is not what customers type. They don’t search “Bloom Aesthetics Pte Ltd.” They search “facial near me” or “acne treatment Orchard.” If you only appear for your own name, you’re invisible for the searches that actually bring new customers.

Second, Google personalises results. Logged in, on your own wifi, Google already knows you and often shows you your own site to be helpful — while a customer searching cold from across town sees something else entirely. Always check in an incognito window, ideally on your phone, to see the truth.

How to Work Out Which One Is Yours

You can run this diagnosis yourself in about ten minutes:

  1. Search site:yourdomain.com. Nothing? You’re not indexed — that’s Reason 1, fix it first.
  2. Search your service plus your area (e.g. “physiotherapy Jurong”) in an incognito window. Not there? Reason 3 or 4.
  3. Search on Google Maps for what you offer. Not showing? Reason 2 — your Business Profile.
  4. Set up Google Search Console. It’s free, and it tells you exactly which pages are indexed, what searches you’re appearing for, and any errors stopping Google from crawling you. It’s the first thing we set up on any project, because it turns guesswork into facts.

What to Fix First

Work in order of impact. Get indexed, because nothing works until you are. Then claim and complete your Google Business Profile, because for a local Singapore business that’s usually the biggest jump for the least effort. Then, and only then, invest in the slower work of content and authority that wins competitive searches.

If you’ve run the checks and you’re still stuck — or you’re indexed but can’t move off page three — that’s exactly the kind of thing we untangle. Have a look at our SEO and performance work, or get in touch and we’ll tell you which of the five it is.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I find my own business on Google?

Usually one of five reasons: your site is too new or blocked and hasn't been indexed yet, you have no Google Business Profile, you rank but sit on page three or beyond, competitors have more authority, or you are searching in a way real customers never would. The fastest first check is to type site:yourdomain.com into Google. If nothing comes up, Google hasn't indexed you and that is the problem to fix first.

How long before a new website shows up on Google?

A new site usually starts appearing within a few days to a few weeks once Google finds and indexes it. Ranking well for competitive terms takes longer, often three to six months. Being indexed and ranking are two different things. You can be fully indexed and still not appear on page one because other sites are simply stronger for that search.

Do I need a Google Business Profile to show up on Google Maps in Singapore?

Yes. Google Business Profile is the single most important factor for showing up in the map pack and for 'near me' searches. Without a verified profile, your business won't reliably appear on Google Maps, no matter how good your website is. It is free to set up, and getting the categories, address, and hours right matters as much as having it.

Why does my website show up on my phone but not for my customers?

Google personalises results. When you search for your own business while logged in, on your own network, Google already knows you and often shows you your site to be helpful. Your customers, searching cold from a different location, may see something completely different. Always check in an incognito window, and ideally on mobile, to see what a real customer sees.

Can I check whether Google has indexed my site myself?

Yes. Type site:yourdomain.com into Google to see roughly which of your pages are indexed. For the full picture, set up Google Search Console, which is free and shows exactly which pages are indexed, which searches you appear for, and any errors stopping Google from crawling your site. It is the first tool we set up on any SEO project.
